The Glycemic Testing Rules

Glycemic Score Testing: Key Steps for Accuracy
- Purpose – Measure how food and drinks affect your blood sugar.
- Preparation –
- Test under the same conditions (time, activity, fasting state).
- Fast for 8-12 hours before insulin/carb sensitivity tests or supplement protocols.
- Fast for 2 hours before testing the glycemic score of food or drink
- Drink only water; avoid caffeine, food, and exercise 2 hours prior.
- Make sure that your CGM glucose readings are in the baseline range before testing. If not, wait 15 minutes and try again. If you’re managing diabetes, aim for CGM glucose readings between 70 and 130 mg/dL before testing any products.
- Testing Process –
- Baseline: Measure fasting glucose (CGM) before consuming test food.
- Consume: Finish the test food/drink in 5-10 minutes.
- Monitor: Track glucose in real-time up to 120 minutes.
- Recording – Log food details, portion size, glucose readings, and any symptoms.
- Results Analysis – Observe peak glucose rise and return to baseline. Compare responses to different foods.
- Additional Tips –
- Wait 2+ hours before testing another food.
- Repeat tests on different days for accuracy.
